WILDE Gallery was founded by Canadian-born artist Peter Wilde in September of 2007 as a space for emerging art and curatorial practice.

The gallery program explicitly focuses on the idea of the Painterly in contemporary culture, as manifested in a variety of media such as Video, Photography, Drawing, Performance and Installations

The gallery exhibits frequently at international art fairs throughout the year as part of the promotion of its’ artists and gallery program, in both Europe and North America. The curatorial program has included shows produced by among others, Wayne Baerwaldt, Rita Selvaggio, Heike Fühlbrugge and Doina Popescu. WILDE Gallery has also hosted the Forum Expanded program together with Berlinale since its inauguration as well as collaborating with several international galleries to expand the exposure of its artists.

With its focus on the idea of the Painterly, WILDE Gallery conducts an ongoing investigation of the acts of painting and to trace its development in contemporary art. The medium of painting has gone through a series of deaths throughout the 20th century, which has sparked the birth of other means of artistic expression. The idea of authorship and authenticity has been questioned since the beginning of post-modernity and while artistic narrative and autonomy may seem problematic in today’s complex world, there is still much to be added to the curriculum of artistic production such as painting and its place within the context of the history of ideas. In this vein, the gallery seeks to augment the basic handling of images through a chosen focus and process, a trained eye, a wish to add to the many existing layers of history and to deliver a resolution that maintains the genuine urge to evoke meaning from visual language.

Located strategically in Berlin-Mitte between the classic gallery neighbourhood of Auguststrasse and the new gallery district of Heidestrasse and Halle am Wasser, the gallery offers easy access to visitors. We mount six to eight exhibitions a year and keep a constantly updated archive and inventory of respective gallery artists.
