ABOUT RICHARD HOLLANDER
Richard Hollander’s kinetic sculptures represent a fusion of visual
and acoustic rhythm animated by digital and mechanical control mechanisms.
He began his studies at the Design School at Cal Arts and continued at
UC Berkeley, graduating with a B.S. in Electrical Engineering and Computer
Science. Hollander is interested in moving forms and their ability to
produce patterns of sound and rhythm. Utilizing electro-mechanical elements
under digital control, he engineers moving artworks that are both sculptural
and musical.
Hollander is an active member of the Academy of Motion Pictures of Arts
and Sciences and was a founding member of the Visual Effects Society.
As a producer at PIXAR, Inc., Hollander produced the academy award nominated
short, Presto. He originally entered the field of visual film effects
working on the classic movie The China Syndrome. His credits
include Star Trek, The Motion Picture, Blade Runner, Titanic, Harry
Potter and the Sorcerer’s Stone, The Lion The Witch and The Wardrobe,
Superman Returns and The Golden Compass, among other notable
feature films. He lives and works in San Francisco.
